Abstract:
Environmental interpretation has become an important part of landscape planning and design in Europe, the United States, Japan, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan regions of China. Nowadays, environmental interpretation has also attracted the attention of landscape architecture academia and industry in Chinese mainland. However, the environmental interpretation is a new approach in landscape planning and design, due to the lack of awareness and practicability of it. This paper combines practical cases to demonstrate the significance of environmental interpretation on landscape planning and design. The results are as follows: The environmental interpretation system can make visitors have more profound and richer understanding of the landscape. In the planning of natural parks, such as protected areas, national parks and country parks, environmental interpretation is the core reflecting the characteristics and personality of the parks. For wetlands, which are natural space lack of landscape variability and richness, according to the traditional landscape view, environmental interpretation can even be the main clue in planning a tour guide system. Environmental interpretation has the function of assisting tourists' behavior management and improving the protection of resources and environment. And high-quality environmental interpretation planning and design can enhance the aesthetic level of the landscape.
