Abstract:
The needs of preliminary exploration of landscape archaeology and the development of inter-disciplinary studies of landscape architecture, ancient architecture and other related disciplines have put forward new requirements on the study of historical geography in China. This research introduces the profound evaluation and rediscovery of the heritage corridor put forward by historical geographers in Japan, such as ancient post roads and historical streets. It elucidates that historical geographical pre-exploration and analysis, especially the investigation of historical background, the review of literature records, and the comparison with large-scale maps and on-site investigations, are still effective ways in advanced researches and an indispensable method for the study of changes and restoration of the linear historical landscape. It proposes that the historical geographical analysis gives some enlightenment to the research of landscape archaeology and great heritage site protection in China.
