Current Situation and Analysis of the Discipline and Specialty Setting of Landscape Architecture in China

There have been a lot of significant changes in landscape architecture education in China since the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) was established in 2005. Of course, it can also be attributed to the establishment of the first-level discipline of landscape architecture in 2011, as well as the reorganization of the landscape architecture specialty at the undergraduate level in 2012. A general survey on degree programs was conducted firstly, aiming to obtain the current situation of disciplines and specialty settings of landscape architecture in China. And its investigation subjects involved doctor’s degree, master’s scientific degree and master’s professional degree programs of the first-level discipline of landscape architecture, as well as the bachelor’s degree programs of landscape architecture in 2021. Then, there was a comparative analysis of degree programs setting among different regions, provincial-level administrative regions, cities and city megalopolises. Finally, the development trend of landscape architecture discipline settings was discussed based on the change of degree program numbers since 2011. The result shows that the term of landscape architecture as a discipline has gradually received wide acceptance, but the number of degree programs needs to be increased and the regional distribution needs to be optimized. The research described the development status of the landscape architecture discipline, and it would provide the basic data for the development strategy of the discipline.
