In order to clarify the concept and definition of horticultural therapy, it deeply considers its theoretical development issues.
This paper provides a review and summary of critical issues to be addressed as the professions related to horticultural therapy evolve within the disciplinary fields linking the natural environment to human health. It is based on over fifty years of education, practice, research, teaching, collaboration, writing, and consulting worldwide in the development of horticultural therapy as a profession. Combined with current extensive in-depth review of the literature, this paper has been written to encourages readers to collaborate on addressing the issues that are emerging as critical to the advancement of the field.
It provides readers with diverse approaches to understanding and addressing critical elements of the subject as part of the development of theories, models, and applications.
