Abstract
The Berlin Wall is an important relic and historical witness of political events in the modern history of Berlin. From June 1990 to the present, the Berlin government has carried out various levels of protection and development of the Berlin Wall site. By sorting out the relationship between Berlin wall and Berlin city development, the paper explores the protection and planning of The Berlin Wall site from the three aspects of the government work, site structure and outdoor public space. It concludes that the German Government and the people have given enough respect to the history, with regard to the Site of the Berlin Wall. The government-led multidimensional and sustainable planning has played a key role in the protection of the site. The flexible, diversified, high-quality public space construction modes and rich commemorative activities have activated and revived the declining area. This provides good reference for the protection planning and design of relic sites in China.
