Based on the general understanding that Chinese landscape paintings of Song Dynasty left a profound impact on Japanese garden construction, this paper focuses on Daisen-in Garden of Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto, to explore the spread of landscape paintings in Japan and the life experience of the garden designer. With the materials and survey, as well as Chinese ancient paintings and painting theory, this paper infers and analyzes the influence of the Song Dynasty landscape paintings on the construction of the Karesansui in the Daisen-in Garden, with a view to exploring a new model for the studies of Japanese traditional gardens from the perspective of “picturesque garden construction”.
