Abstract
Different eras create different gardens, and gardens of different periods can also rise to symbols recording human exploration of the world. Through the study of the Italian Renaissance historical gardens and the landscape architects behind these famous gardens during the three periods of “backtracking, integration and transformation”, this paper analyzes the characteristics of Italian Renaissance gardens and discusses the “contexts” of the gardens. It puts forward the law of garden evolution and the essential reasons, i.e., the evolution of garden forms follows the development of culture. The history of gardens is a tangible history of human development hidden in the landscape. Studying this law helps us inherit and develop to make innovations.
