Abstract:
In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou was crowned with garden pavilions. Yihong Garden was an island garden on the lake, surrounded by water on three sides. It was an important part of the garden cluster on the Slender West Lake in Yangzhou. It was also a salt merchant’s private garden, built to welcome the Qianlong’s emperor southern tour. Lu Jianzeng also held the local cultural event Hongqiao Scholastic Assembly in Yihong Garden. Therefore, Yihong Garden became a local cultural space, jointly built by salt merchants and officials. Although it is a private garden, Yihong Garden has a strong public character as it is located in the Slender West Lake. According to historical data, the restoration of the layout of Yihong Garden may be analyzed from the aspects of garden elements and artistic conception. This research summarizes the characteristics in the making of Yihong Garden, with a view to supplementing historical data for the study of the garden cluster by the Slender West Lake in Yangzhou.
