Abstract:
The water-level-fluctuation zones in the Three Gorges Reservoir area have long been troubled by such ecological problems as water loss and soil erosion, environmental pollution and biodiversity reduction. Particularly, the ecological restoration of the waterlevel-fluctuation zone in the mid-river island is more complex and difficult than that of other general water-level-fluctuation zones. According to the dual differentiation characteristics of the water-level-fluctuation zone in the mid-river island within the Three Gorges Reservoir area, differentiated and targeted dual approaches can be taken for ecological restoration from the two dimensions of time and space. This research takes the dual approach as the basis for ecological restoration of the water-level-fluctuation zone in Guangyang Island and, centering around four typical segments in Guangyang Island, proposes four ecological restoration modes, with each mode providing pertinent countermeasures from the three aspects of soil consolidation and bank protection, vegetation stabilization and habitat enriching for each specific segment targeting the dual differentiation characteristics thereof and such problems as water loss and soil erosion, community structure change or animal habitat singularization therein, thus forming a differentiated and referential ecological restoration paradigm.
